Such a decision is a well-considered choice: they consciously elaborate all the options. A personalized, almost tangible product presentation gives the customer the confidence to make the right choice.

A 3D configurator offers this experience. Visually displaying all possible product combinations simplifies the decision-making process, allowing the customer to make a choice more quickly. Especially when the product is shown in the customer's personal environment and expert advice can be easily provided.

Together with their digital consultant from FDTA, wiko sought a configurator that supports the customer in the purcahsing process to visually showcase the many product options offered by Wiko. it is essential that the configurator exudes high quality : the ultimate visual experience should closely match reality. For a high-quality appearance, a solid platform is required. Visual eCommerce provides the solution.

Countless options and a fast platform

A dormer window has many different configuration options. From roof framing to the number of windows to the total size of the dormer, everything can be customized to your own taste. However, not all options can actually be combined. Defining design boundaries is therefore important.
After all, have you ever seen a four meters wide dormer window with twelve windows?

Collective thinking

To truly understand Wiko's product and its boundaries, we put on Wiko's shoes. Translating their product into rules within the configurator ensures that the product representation remains realistic. For instance, the configurator adjusts the number of windows based on the size of the dormer. 

This allows end users to design products that are feasible to create and easy to quote. Quite convenient!

Visual eCommerce is a flexible and headless e-commerce platform focused on product experience and configuration. Due to its robust User Experience, the platform is user-friendly for the end user. Additionally, it is easy to use for you, the selling party. The flexibility of Visual eCommerce allows the seller to seamlessly integrate the platform with your business, using your own business rules. Photorealistic imagery

For Wiko, a photorealistic representation of the dormer was very important: both the product and the surroundings are therefore customizable. This way, the customer can simulate their own environment in the configurator. This ensures that the dormer will look good on your roof!

To represent the dormer as realistically as possible, the visual images are of high quality. This includes factors like lighting, shadows, perspective, and reflections, as well as details in and around the house. However, the complexity of the many design options can lead to a slow platform, which needs to be avoided. The solution turned out to be a high-quality 2D layering approach. This means that while the images in the configurator are designed in 3D, the configuration itself is 2D. Consequently, you cannot rotate Wiko's configurator, but you can zoom in and out to view the dormer from a distance.

Maintainable pricing matrix

Through the business manager, your business rules can be integrated into the product model. This allows you to control when certain presets or product features are shown or not. Additionally, everything is customizable: changing prices or sales rules can be easily adjusted.

For Wiko, this flexibility is crucial. They operate in market with rapidly changing purchase prices, which are often dependent on the size of the product. The maintainable pricing matrixwithin the platorm allows all prices, which vary based on the width and height of the product, to be quickly and visually displayed in the configurator. Subsequently, the prices are immediately visible int he quote.

This maintainable pricing matrix can also be valuable for Wiko in the future: within Visual eCommerce, it's possible to display different prices based on customer attributes. You can set different prices for various customer segments, For example, project developers could order at a different rate than private customers.

Webshop and website management

Quote generator

Through the integration with Magento Commerce, a quote can be requested after configuring the product. Due to our custom integration, this quete can be easily shared with Wiko's CRM system in the future. In combination with the built-in sharing feature, Visual eCommerce serves as a true lead generator.

The quote can also easily be shared with Wiko through Whatsapp, allowing customers to request help effortlessly. Additionally, a showroom appointment can be scheduled, with the quote sent directly along with it. this approach helps leads convert into cusotmers more quickly!

Tech-talk: image layering

A high-quality configurator works smoothly and quickly. However, with the many possible product options, how do you ensure that this does not compromise image quality or configuration speed? We think long-term, so a solution had to be found.

The solution turned out to be a method called "image layering". We stored the different dormer options as separate images. By combining individual elements (such as windows and roof framing) into a generated image directly on the web server, we avoid rendering all possible combinations in 3D. This significantly reduces the total number of images, ensuring that the platform remains fast while still providing a photorealistic display.

Tech talk: integrated with your own CMS

Wiko has its own CMS for managing their website. Therefore, we chose to integrate the configurator as an extension of their existing site. It is crucial that this extension aligns with Wiko's current website: the end user should feel as though they are working within a single, cohesive system.

Daarom toont het platform dezelfde header en design als op Wiko’s website. Ook navigeert het platform op het eind terug naar de website van Wiko. Het is dus mogelijk Visual eCommerce toe te voegen aan een bestaande website: deze hoeft niet op de schop!
